Places to Have Your Business Party

A holiday business party is often a special occasion where your company celebrates its employees’ accomplishments from the past year, as well as providing the opportunity to enjoy a festive event for the holidays. Small and large businesses alike are planning to have corporate parties during the holiday season. In last week’s post, we touched upon food and drink options for corporate parties. In this week’s post, we’ll be sharing a few of our favorite venues and business party locations in the Portland area with you.

There are many things to keep in mind when it comes to choosing business party locations. Creating that “just-right” ambience and festive atmosphere for your employees starts with selecting the venue. Picking the best venue for your corporate business party is often just as important as – if not more important than – deciding what you’re going to have on the menu.

These five tips should help you choose the best venue for your holiday business party:

1)  Location, Location, Location

First of all, you should have no trouble finding a variety of holiday party venues in the Portland area. Location is still important though. Consider a venue that is located within a reasonable proximity of your office and where your employees live. Another aspect of a good location is to make sure the venue is fairly easy to find.

2) Good parking arrangements

Safety, as well as comfort, are key to ensuring your guests arrive at the business party without difficulties. Keep in mind the weather Portland may experience during the holidays and also consider chivalry and convenience over the “cool factor.” You may even consider valet parking.

3) A venue’s size is important

Once you’re able to estimate the number of guests, start looking for business party locations to match the size of your expected crowd.

4) Know your budget, and stick with it

Knowing how much money (a number or a range) you have to work with helps considerably in choosing the right venue. Remember, you don’t want to skimp too much – this event is just as much an employee appreciation gathering as it is a holiday party.

5) Entertainment, audio-visual, and catering needs

Do you plan to have live music or a DJ? Dancing? Speakers? Awards? Presentations? If so, make sure you choose a venue that accommodates your group’s needs in these areas, too.

Finally, since you’re more-or-less expected to serve food and drinks at your business party, you’ll want to make sure you’re able to easily coordinate your food ideas with your venue. Depending on the venue you choose, you have various menu options based on some of the factors listed above (venue location, size, and budget). Catering is often considered one of the simplest alternatives. A good caterer works closely with you to determine the best menus and types of food based on your venue and guests’ needs.

We recommend the following three venues, all located in the Portland area. They are among our favorite business party locations:

The West End Ballroom:

The West End Ballroom is one of Portland’s newest wedding, reception and event facilities. This historic downtown ballroom sits a few blocks off Broadway, near downtown hotels, Pioneer Square, the Max, street car and bus lines and other downtown destinations!

Castaway Portland:

Built in 1929, Castaway was home to the makers of yellow strand rope used in the original Portland Street Car.  It was later used as a smelting and refining warehouse. In 2007, it was painstakingly restored to its original glory and features.

This venue is located near the Pearl District at 1900 NW 18th Avenue in Portland, Oregon. (at the corner of 18th and Upshur).

Pure Space:

Pure Space is an urban event venue located in Northwest Portland’s Pearl District. With over 10,000 square feet of open space, the wedding and event site can accommodate up to 1,000 guests, or be tailored for smaller, more intimate gatherings.

Whichever venue you decide upon, know that your employees are going to appreciate and enjoy it. We enjoy catering holiday business parties and understand how each party has unique requirements. If you have questions or catering needs during the holiday season, please give us a call.
