Why Hire a Caterer?

Are you making plans for a special occasion? An important part of your planning will most likely include the decision of whether to hire a caterer. Since catering goes well beyond simply preparing and serving food, the benefits of hiring a caterer often outweigh any advantages of trying to conquer it all by yourself.

From weddings, to corporate events, to cocktail parties – and plenty of other types of special occasions in between – a good caterer helps save you time and can certainly ease the burden of handling everything on your own.

Why Hire a Caterer?

Here are 5 great reasons why you should hire a caterer:

1) A caterer has experience in planning menus

Caterers create and prepare menus every day. They know which foods best complement one another, as well as which drinks pair best with the foods on the menu.

A caterer also knows from experience which menus work best for the type of event you are planning, and can provide appropriate recommendations.

And finally, most caterers realize the importance of providing safe options for guests with special dietary restrictions and/or food allergies.

2) Remembers the necessary details of an event beyond the menu

Caterers do so much more than simply bring food and drinks to your event. They also remember the “little things” that you may forget: decorations, silverware, plates, linens, glasses, and so on, for the full-on experience your guests will expect and appreciate.

3) Knows exactly how much food and drink to serve at your event

Caterers have experience with calculating the right amounts of hors d’oeuvres, starters, entrees, side dishes, desserts, etc. they need for each guest. This leaves you with no worries about running out of food, or having too much food left over after your event.

4) Catering an event helps ensure each and every guest is satisfied

When you hire a caterer, he or she most likely brings an entire staff along with them for events. At all times, there are people on hand who help prepare and serve food, make sure drink glasses stay filled, clear up dirty dishes, and handle your guests’ requests professionally and politely. They work with everyone involved in your event so that everything flows smoothly and stays organized.

5) Caterers take care of setting everything up before your event, and then cleaning up afterwards

This is probably one of the best reasons of all to hire a caterer. Setting things up, then taking everything down afterwards is probably the most time consuming aspect of any event.

A caterer and his or her staff takes care of every detail involved with setup:

  • Preparing and setting out the food and drinks in a visually pleasing manner
  • Assembling and positioning tables and chairs (or other seating arrangements)
  • Arranging decorations, linens, silverware, glasses, plates, etc.

After your event, the caterer and staff also handle clearing the tables, washing the dishes, and putting everything back where it belongs.

Bonus: When it comes down to it, hiring a caterer saves you a significant amount of time and trouble. This lets you relax and enjoy your event along with your guests without any worries.

It was amazing how you mentioned that professional caterers not only bring food but also put into consideration the things that we might forget like silverware, linens, and other things. I was honestly planning to suggest that we prepare everything for my sister’s wedding next month, but now I realized it wouldn’t be that easy. Thanks for sharing. It might be for the best to hire a caterer for the wedding.

One of the things in this article that I really liked was when you mentioned that caterers will make sure that drinking glasses are filled, dishes are cleaned, food is prepared, and all the questions and concerns of guests are answered. That’s good to know because the birthday of my mom is next month, and we plan to do the celebration at home. At least, by hiring professional catering services, we can still experience fine dining at the comfort of our home. Thanks for sharing.

I like that you mention that one of the best reason to hire a caterer is that they deal with the set up before an event and the cleaning up afterward. If you’re the one that’s putting on the event, hiring a good catering company can be really beneficial and save you some stress. It’s important to consider your options and compare different caterers to see which one would work best for you.

Thank you for the post on why you should hire a caterer. I definitely like the idea that a caterer will make sure that each and every guest is satisfied in terms of food and drink. It would be an added weight off your chest knowing someone else is in charge of the food and making sure the guests get food and drink.
