A wedding might be one of the biggest and more challenging events to plan. It’s an incredibly special day, creating pressure on the bride to plan a flawless wedding. Add to that all the emotion of not just the bride and groom but their family and friends, and it’s no small undertaking to pull off! Chef du Jour Catering has been privileged to be part of many beautiful Portland weddings, and the brides we’ve gotten to work with have exemplified many best practices of how to plan a flawless wedding. Here are a few of the things they do really well:
#1: They have a well thought out budget they stick to
It’s your wedding, and you want it all on your special day. But the reality is, no matter how large your budget, there will be some limitations on what you can say yes to. A budget is really a way of prioritizing your money so it goes to the things that are most important to you for your wedding day. Knowing where the money is coming from – and if there are strings attached to it – makes it clear what you can or can’t say “yes” to on your big day. Your budget might seem to stand in the way of your ability to plan a flawless wedding, but it doesn’t have to. We’ve seen brides get creative and save money where they can so they can splurge where they want. One last tip: always work with your professionals to save money. For example, a florist may be able to help you find less expensive flowers to substitute for your first choice that will have a similar look.

#2: They have a set wedding planning timeline to follow
It’s true, there are endless details that go into planning a wedding and if you don’t stay on top of the task list, you could easily fall behind and be scrambling before your wedding – which is the last thing a bride should be doing! We suggest creating a detailed task list (complete with due dates!) early on in your wedding planning to make sure nothing gets left out and everything is done on time. If this isn’t your cup of tea, then investing in working with a wedding coordinator could give you organization and peace of mind.

#3: They find the right people to work with them on their wedding
One of the most important factors helping you plan a flawless wedding is choosing the right professionals to be your team. While we love the DIY-approach to weddings, it’s important to realize that requires a ton of work and you may not have the time or resources to invest and it might be worth the energy to hire a professional. Also beware of simply going with the cheapest rate; many times, you will get what you pay for and in most instances it’s worth the investment to work with someone who is truly an expert in their field. Interview people. Meet them face-to-face. Don’t be afraid to wait before committing if you aren’t sure.
